Notes about Libraries

First day back

January 5, 2009 · 2 Comments

So, haven’t missed much in  library land since I’ve been away.

The first day back was ok, slight problem in that my work PC decided to die sometime over Christmas, so most of the day was spent wandering around jumping onto other people’s  when I could, not helped by the fact that my colleague’s PC did exactly the same thing.

I was very impressed with the IT department though (not something I ever thought I’d say) they came to look at the PC within an hour of me reporting it and I’m getting a new one tomorrow. I will be spending the next few days trying to remember passwords for all my favourite sites. I also asked for Firefox to be installed on the new one, it was on the old one, so shouldn’t be a problem, but I may have used Enquire as the reason I need a decent browser, I just can’t cope with IE6 anymore.

I’d forgotten that I’m starting an ILM management course this week. It’s seven days taught and apparently 14 hours study time on my own. Should be good and hopefully useful should I ever decide to try my hand at managing people. I was a little put of my the course manual which was written  in Comic Sans. Surely that shouldn’t be allowed? I may mention it on any evaluation.

There, wasn’t so bad after all! (-:

I think that a well-known PC manufacturer has had its order book pruned considerably and is making councils offers they can’t refuse. We’re suddenly getting wholesale replacements, too.

That makes sense, plus they don’t work very well. I have had to reboot mine at least once a day since I’ve had it.
