Library Day in the Life
I’d heard about the Library Day in the Life project a while ago, but it’s only now in Round 4 that I’ve decided to join in.
Today started the same as any other day – Coffee and Twitter. I decided to catch the train as I didn’t have the energy to walk, plus I wanted to get in early. It also meant I had a chance to read Charlie Brooker’s latest column on the five minute train journey – A Monday morning ritual.
I got into work at about 8.15 as usual. First things always are to check my email and have a quick glance through Google Reader. I then started looking through and answering emails that came in to the library accounts over the weekend; a lot of renewing books, setting up PINs and an enquiry about accessing our Time Digital Archive subscription.
Today was the first one of the blogging workshops that I am running in libraries all week. I had put together a list of sites I was using on Delicious and needed to check that all the sites were accessible on our public PCs. I also made sure that my notes for the session included everything I wanted to cover. Next was to photocopy hand outs and evaluation forms ready for the afternoon.
Some Moo cards I had ordered for our Bookstart Librarians last week arrived in the post, so I delivered them to the office opposite the library. Moo cards always make people smile.
Next was writing a case study for Booktrust based around our Bookstart Bear Blog.
More time spent answering library emails. I prefer to do these regularly otherwise they build up and take ages. More PINs and renewals.
Lunch was a boring Co-op sandwich.
After lunch I caught the bus to Crownhill Library where the blogging workshop was taking place. It went well and I had fun, the feedback was very good, plus I don’t need to change much for the next session on Wednesday.
Managed to get a lift back to the Central Library where I caught up on emails. Some leaflets advertising our Family History Day had arrived and I made sure they would be distributed.
Finally I spent some time updating a couple of things on the website and adding sites to our cyberLibrary.
Home time was about 5.30pm via Sainsbury’s ready for another evening watching the Sopranos.

I was with you right until I looked at the pictures. *Far* too tidy an office to be real! (-:
Obviously I tidied it up for the photo.
